translation => nino @ nikkei entertainment jan'08 [part 001]
ok first of all, WHAT THE *BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPCENSOREDCENSOREDCENS
srsly, when i see a tourist, i feel like shaking him/her and asking 'WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE, WHY'
ok, to my main point.
i finally got my copy of nikkei entertainment. its rly awesome cos there're 4 measley pages of nino. lol. but they heaped praise on arashi and that makes my fangirl soul as happy as aiba with karaage. i will be translating some parts. sorry, i'm being lazy but its so long! and my japanese is still pretty sucky so yeah~ i'm actually attempting fan translation in order to improve my japanese lol sorry to inflict pain on you all. but i'm not going to spam this in any arashi comm, cos my japanese is embarassing!
all words by nino. my comments in blue.

07 is the year where alot of people have been saying "lately, you guys are on the rise"....the sense of reality sets in only when i start to evaluate the figures. at first, even when i saw that the sales of the CD had increased times more, i thought "whose sales figures are these?" i was only half convinced. "had the fans bought more than they used to even if they can't afford it?"[1]. but people from the record company said it looks like it was rly the new fans who had bought them.
... means i cut the stuff in between k~ too much, i was lazy... XD
nikkei ent: johnnys' idols exist because of the fans. hence, sometimes i think that "they exist only because they sell". however, from nino's words, it seems that he is "enlightened" about the nature of his work. the reason is because of arashi's background
DAMN IT SEEMS LIKE I'M TRANSLATING THE WHOLE THING. idk where to start and stop! anyway, i'll only translated nino's words from here on k~
arashi is not the type of group who is frequently praised. therefore we are not used to being commented on our rising popularity(laughes). alot of groups exist within our company. among them, arashi had been commented to be "plain" and "does alot of stuff that other people doesn't know about"[2], this is the image that everyone has of them. hence when i was told that we were to hold a concert in a place as big as tokyo dome, it was a bit surrreal. at first, i thought it was a prank by a variety show.
when i was still a johnny's jr, there was once when i was a backup dancer for a sempai's concert. at that time, due to the typhoon, all traffic was halted. there were people who were late and there were those who couldn't make it. at that time, i danced to an empty audience for about 3 songs. there were few things i could recall that were as lonesome as this.
the big deal about performing in tokyo dome is not about the size of the place. when i see the fans filling up all that vast space, in my mind, thinking in the opposite direction, i can imagine that a time would come when all these people would disappear. no matter what venue it is, the fact that there are fans who are coming to the concerts means everything to us. this is something that will never change
arashi. so awesome.
if i were to talk about the biggest thing that had happened to us in year '07, i would think it would be "hana yori dango 2"(feat. mastumotojun). i think there was a huge increase in new concert goers because of these people who came after watching the drama. in other words, hanadan is the spark that set off arashi. it can be confirmed that there are none who came because of "haikei, chichi ue sama" which was aired in the same month (laughes).
no, don't be mistaken. i do think there are people who came to know about us through "haikei" and "iwojima kara no tegami", i just don't think they would go to the extent of coming to the concert to see me (laughes). but i'm very popular with grannies! if they're around when i'm recording in 巢鸭[3] (a place for obachans that's alike to harajuku for the young), they would hit my body like some warrior and touch me like i'm the 地藏[4] (omg how to translate? ground deity? :x). it's tough.
back to the topic(lol after blowing some trumpet), the new concert goers must have came because they've watched "hana yori dango" or "tensai shimura doubutsu en" (variety show feat. aiba masaki). but even if they came because they were fans of just a single person, bascially i feel that they must have like arashi as a whole.

[1] his exact words were "無理して"
[2] his exact words were "マイナーなこと" which means things few people would do. think minor sports in g no arashi :D
[3] if you've watched haikei, its the place where the grannies buy red panties XD
[4] like, i think the japanese touched the statue of the ground deity for luck?? someone please verify~
i know, i'm a 中途半端 translator lol please correct me if there're mistakes in the translations. thanks much!
anyway, part 002 tomorrow where he talks about his ranking in the dec issue of nikkei entertainment where the mag held polls for under 25 actors and nino was ranked #1 in GUYS'S "most well liked actor" but he had some comments to make about it...lol cliffhanger XD

it would be nice to provide a link back here if you take anything out :D
